Objective: In this study, it has been aimed to determine the relation between the empathic tendency and compassion level in the students of midwifery department. Methods:The study is a descriptive and analytical study. The data were collected by self-reporting method using "Empathic Tendency Scale" and "Compassion Scale". The study was conducted with a total of 335 midwifery students studying at university in Turkey. Results:The students' empathic tendency score was found to be 67.38 ±5.86. The students' compassion score was found to be 94.63±11.58. The empathic tendency level of the students studying in the first grade is significantly higher than other grades. There is a positive correlation between the empathic tendency level and the sub-dimensions of the total compassion score, kindness, common humanity, and mindfulness. Conclusion:It has been determined because of the study that the empathic tendency and compassion levels of the students of midwifery are high. Classes about empathy and compassion should be included in the midwifery curriculum for the students to graduate with this point of view.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, hasta ve hemşirelerin perspektifinden iyi bir hemşirenin kim olduğuna ilişkin görüşleri belirlemektir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırma, nitel bir durum araştırması olarak tasarlandı. Araştırmanın örneklemini on bir hemşire ve sekiz hasta oluşturdu. Veriler, yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile yüz yüze görüşülerek toplandı. Verilerin analizinde içerik analiz yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Hemşirelere göre iyi hemşire özellikleri "gelişim ve değişime açıklık", "mesleki yetkinlik", "iletişim", "mesleki bilinç ve sevgi" ve "kişilik özellikleri" kategorilerinden oluşmuştur. Mesleki yetkinlik kategorisi için bilgi, beceri, deneyim ve uygun bakım; kişilik özellikleri kategorisi için öz disiplin ve insancıl özellikler alt kategorileri belirlenmiştir. Hastalara göre iyi hemşire özellikleri "iletişim", "mesleki yetkinlik", "mesleği sevme" ve "kişilik özellikleri" kategorilerinden oluşmuştur. Altı hemşirenin kendisini iyi bir hemşire olarak görmediği belirlenmiştir. Hemşirelerin kendilerini iyi bir hemşire olarak görmelerini engelleyen faktörler "bireysel" ve "sistemsel" nedenler olarak belirlenmiştir. Bireysel nedenleri yetersiz mesleki bilgi ve beceri, mesleki değişiklikleri takip edememe, olaylara duygusal yaklaşma ve sorunlarla baş edememe; sistemsel nedenleri ise hasta sayısı ile iş yükünün fazla ve hemşire sayısının az olması oluşturmuştur. Sonuç: Hemşirelerin idealize ettikleri ve kendilerinin sahip olduklarını düşündükleri iyi hemşire özellikleri ile hasta ve hemşirelerin iyi bir hemşirenin özeliklerine yönelik görüşlerinin benzer ancak bazı açılardan farklılık gösterdiği belirlenmiştir.

Purpose: While clinical practice is crucial for nursing students to acquire the skills needed to provide professional, high-quality nursing care, further studies on improving undergraduate nursing programs are needed to provide a supportive clinical learning environment for student nurses. This study aimed to understand nursing students' clinical experiences in newborn nurseries and neonatal intensive care units and to provide basic data for the establishment of strategies to promote effective clinical education.Methods: Interviews were held with 15 nursing students at J University who had clinical practice experience in the newborn nursery and neonatal intensive care unit. The collected data were analyzed using the phenomenological analysis method developed by Colaizzi (1978).Results: The nursing students' experiences were grouped into four categories: “expectations for and anxiety about clinical practice", "acquisition of a wide range of knowledge regarding neonatal nursing", "challenges faced in clinical practice", and "experiencing interpersonal changes".Conclusion: The current neonatal practice nursing education system provides students with positive learning experiences. However, the lack of practice opportunities, insufficient instruction, and the theory-practice gap were identified as major issues hindering students' learning needs. These study results are expected to provide basic data for curriculum development to improve undergraduate nursing education.
