Effectiveness of combination of perindopril and indapamide on ambulatory arterial stiffness index in Vietnamese patients with primary hypertension

Abstract: Hypertension is a common disease in clinical practice in many countries worldwide. There are currently about 1 billion people with hypertension, and it is estimated that by 2025, this number will reach 1.5 billion 1 . Hypertension is a deteriorative illness owing to its complications that damage target organs such as the heart, eyes, brain, and kidney, in which cardiovascular events are of particular concern. Many evidence show that arterial stiffness is an independent prognostic factor for predict-ting advers… Show more

“… 19 recorded a lower mean age (54.3), as the age of the study population ranged from 51 to 60 years. Our population risk factors were similar to other studies: smoking (37.3%) and obesity (50.7%) 21 ; and hypertension (81.0%), T2DM (23.0%), smoking (25.0%), and dyslipidemia (85.0%). 20 Calcified atheroma accounted for the highest percentage (60.2%), similar to Sato et al.…”

“…A total of 139 patients were analyzed; the sensitivity, PPV, and accuracy in our study were very high and similar to other studies 3 , 19 , 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 ( Table 3 , Table 5 ). In addition, our study evaluated more at stenosis ≥70% and showed a lower diagnostic performance at higher stenosis levels.…”

“…The majority of the study participants (68.6%) aged 60. This is the age with a high risk of cardiovascular diseases in general and hypertension in particular [ 26 , 27 ].…”

“…Insulin resistance in people with type 2 diabetes causes elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels, disrupts cell- to-cell communication, including signals that regulate blood pressure, stimulates the sympathetic nervous system, and makes the heartbeat faster and the arteries constrict. In addition, it also creates an imbalance between sodium and potassium (thereby causing an increase in blood volume) and calcium and magnesium (resulting in arterial constriction) and simultaneously induces atherosclerosis of the blood arteries, leading to hypertension [27,29,30]. Among 105 hypertensive patients participating in the study, up to 78 people had elevated blood Hcy levels ≥15 μmol/L, accounting for 74.3%.…”

“…Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is present in 15–21% of the general population but affects 50–70% of patients with CKD and as many as 80% of patients with CKD on dialysis [ 2 ]. LVH also has been associated with the ambulatory arterial stiffness index (AASI) and left ventricular mess index (LVMI) [ 3 ]. In some studies, authors reveal that the progression of LVH in patients with ESRD is associated with mortality and incident cardiovascular events [ 4 ].…”
