Effectiveness of Acupuncture as Adjunctive Therapy in Osteoarthritis of the Knee

Abstract: Acupuncture seems to provide improvement in function and pain relief as an adjunctive therapy for osteoarthritis of the knee when compared with credible sham acupuncture and education control groups.

Among the 7 RCTs that included a sham control, we considered the 4 (43,(45)(46)(47) with the highest internal validity ratings on the Cochrane Back Review Group scale (Table) to make up the bulk of the evidence for our review. All 4 RCTs were published since 2004 in the world's leading health care journals.…”
