Effectiveness of a handmade “New Carotid Catheter” in transradial carotid angiography: A comparison with conventional multipurpose catheters

Abstract: Transradial carotid angiography can be performed using our newly developed carotid catheter. The carotid arteries of patients with widespread coronary artery disease can be visualized, while asymptomatic patients carrying a high risk of stroke can be treated, preventing potential stroke occurrence. In a larger-scale comparative study, the favorable contributions of routine use of the new method and a decreased frequency of stroke may be demonstrated.

“…Femoral route was not suitable in 72% of our patients (Lerisch syndrome, obesity, severe skeletal deformity, surgical revascularization of the femoral region, bilateral iliac stent, advanced peripheral vascular disease, widespread edema, the patients that declined femoral way insistently). In these patients, re‐intervention of the occluded radial artery was attempted before brachial intervention or axillary intervention …”

“…Therefore, the first preferred route for carotid angiography is the femoral way. New catheter development is needed for physicians to making easier and safer carotid imaging with femoral way [19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26].…”

“…LIMA can then be displayed with several rotation movements. In anomalous cases, if we cannot engage grafts with existing catheters, we were able to achieve imaging by catheter reshaping in the laboratory environment [17][18][19] (Figure 3, Videos 1 and 2).…”
