“…Sequential chemical extraction is a well-established approach for the fractionation of trace metals in soils by using a series of progressively harsher reagents to dissolve increasingly refractory forms (Ure and Davidson, 2002). Although some inherent limitations caused by the non-selectivity of reagents and possible re-adsorption of metals during extraction have been reported (Nirel and Morel, 1990;Kim and Fergusson, 1991), it has been found that plant uptake and toxicity can be related to specific fractions of sequential extraction procedure (Woolson et al, 1971;Chlopecka and Adriano, 1996;Guo and Yost, 1998;Krishnamurti and Naidu, 2000).
