Effectiveness and safety of a robot-assisted 3D personalized template in 125I seed brachytherapy of thoracoabdominal tumors

Abstract: PurposeThis research aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of a robot-assisted 3D personalized template in 125I seed brachytherapy of thoracoabdominal tumors.Material and methodsForty-three patients with different tumors were involved in this research between 2013 and 2015. They were all eligible to 125I seed implantation based on robot-assisted 3D personalized template. Meanwhile, 51 patients with similar tumors, which were treated with a conventional coplanar template, were involved for comparison. F… Show more

“…In Ma et al . study, V 100 and D 90 were 5% and 8%, and the 2-year overall survival and local control rates improved to 18.9% and 23.3%, respectively [13]. Therefore, 3DPNCT planning demonstrated a potential advantage to increase local control rate and to reduce recurrence.…”

“…[9,[34][35][36][37][38][39][40] Recently, the advantage of a robotic implantation with the use of a personalized 3D printed template compared to the manual implantation with personalized 3D printed template guidance was documented. [41] Some groups use seed implants, other the HDR stepping source technology. In HDR practice, dose distribution can be better personalized by adjusting dwell times and dwell distances, which allow conformal radiation delivery.…”

“…Traditional methods of lung area LDR brachytherapy require doctors to position needles guided by CT images. Ma X et al 10 presented a method for radioactive seed implantation for lung cancer brachytherapy assisted by a CT image-guided system and achieved a good outcome. However, this method requires frequent CT scans during surgery and the accuracy is low.…”
