Effective procedures for the determination of As, Cd, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Se, Th, Zn, U and rare earth elements in plants and foodstuffs

Abstract: There are several international regulations regarding trace elements. The use of ICP-MS for their determination is usually a difficult task, especially when Hg is one of the target elements.

“…Subsequently, 8 ml of a solution containing 4 ml of H 2 O 2 (30% v/v) and 4 ml of ultra‐pure water were added, and transferred to a Teflon digestion vessel in agreement with Paniz et al . (2018). The determination of iron (Fe), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), manganese (Mn), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn) was performed using an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (model ICP‐MS 7900; Agilent).…”

“…Energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) measurements were performed for the quantitative analysis of the elemental composition of the samples using a chemical microanalysis module (EDX) in the electron microscope. Iron concentration was determined using an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS; Agilent 7900, Hachioji, Japan) . The samples were digested in 65% HNO 3 and diluted in water to obtain a 1 × 10 6 diluted solution.…”

“…Pigments were quantified using a spectrophotometer (model UV‐M51; Bel Photonics), according to the methodology of Lichtenthaler and Buschmann (2001). The determination of Cd, K, Mg, Ca, Fe, Zn, Cu were carried out using an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (model ICP‐MS 7900; Agilent) in agreement with Paniz et al (2018).…”
