Effective interaction forpf-shell nuclei

Abstract: An effective interaction is derived for use in the full p f basis. Starting from a realistic G-matrix interaction, 195 two-body matrix elements and four single-particle energies are determined by fitting to 699 energy data in the mass range 47-66. The derived interaction successfully describes various structures of p f -shell nuclei. As examples, systematics of the energies of the first 2 ϩ states in the Ca, Ti, Cr, Fe, and Ni isotope chains and energy levels of 56,57,58 Ni are presented. The appearance of a … Show more

“…First two columns show old and new experimental data, see [6] for details. Next three columns collect the results of shell-model calculations using MSDI3 [13], GXPF1 [14], and GXPF1A [15] interactions, respectively. Last column shows the results obtained in this work using six reference Slater determinants described in the text.…”

“…One area of special interest concerns the isotopes around doubly-magic 48 Ca. While much experimental and theoretical progress has been made in the understanding of excitations involving neutrons and protons above N = 28 and Z = 20 [3][4][5][6], knowledge of structures involving proton orbitals below Z = 20 is more limited. This has recently led to a strong interest in the experimental investigation of the neutronrich potassium isotopes, as they can provide guidance for the theoretical description of proton-hole states with respect to 48 Ca.…”

“…New shell-model Hamiltonians in p f -shell, GXPF1 [1] and GXPF1J [2], can describe spin properties of p f -shell nuclei quite well. The Gamow-Teller (GT) strength in 58 Ni [3], for example, is nicely reproduced and M1 strengths in various p f -shell nuclei are also well described.…”
