Effective Desiliconization Method with Strong Mixing of Agent in Swirling Flow of Hot Metal

Abstract: Control of the silicon content in hot metal is one important strategy for better hot metal dephosphorization and subsequent BOF operation. For this purpose, hot metal desiliconization is carried out by the addition of iron oxide at the tilting runner in the blast furnace casthouse. Since hot metal desiliconization is determined by mass transfer of Fe x O in the slag as well as mass transfer of silicon in the metal in the low Fe x O concentration range, attention should be focused on mixing of the desiliconizin… Show more

“…The associated processes include desiliconisation, desulphurisation, and dephosphorisation, and they involve the use of effective agents (e.g. O 2 , Fe x O, and CaC 2 ) with injection technology or mechanical stirring [5][6][7]. Metallurgical units and vessels, such as pig iron runner, torpedo car, transfer ladle, and BOF, are used for pretreatment processes, and the combined employments of vessels differ across various steel plants.…”
