Effective and Green Synthesis of Methyl Pyrrole-1-carboxylate with Dimethyl Carbonate Over Solid Base

Abstract: The methyl pyrrole-1-carboxylate (1-MPC) was synthesized by highly selective one-pot N-methoxycarbonylation of pyrrole with dimethyl carbonate (DMC). Solid bases were found to be effective catalysts and the formation of 1-MPC was closely related to their basicity. The in-situ FTIR indicated that the role of solid base catalysts was to activate pyrrole via the formation of O-H bond and the weakening of N-H bond, which was attributed to the interaction between pyrrole and surface oxygen anion of solid base. Furt… Show more

“…The total intensity per unit surface area was greater in the order 1373 KMgO, 1273 K-MgO and 1073 K-MgO. The peak positions of the CO 2 -TPD curves for MgO are in good agreement with a previous report by Fan et al [26]. Interestingly, the proportion of the dif- ferent basicities varied with the calcination temperature.…”

“…In agreement with the previous reports, ,,− DMC revealed a tunable reactivity and operated as a methoxycarbonylating and methylating agent in the presence of ZrOCl 2 ·8H 2 O. Undoubtedly, coordination of DMC to Zr 4+ activates both carbonyl group and O–CH 3 moieties of the carbonic acid diester, therefore, Zr 4+ enhances not only the methylation but also the carbomethoxylation activity of the ambident electrophile DMC .…”

“…Two distinct desorption peaks at around 100 and 350 °C in the CO 2 -TPD profiles of the ZrO 2 and Fe 2 O 3 samples are observed. This illustrates the presence of mostly weak and medium-strength basic sites on the samples . The TPD profiles of CaCO 3 and MgO are broad, suggesting that different basic sites with diverse strengths are present on the surfaces of the samples, binding CO 2 with different energies and coordinates.…”

“…This illustrates the presence of mostly weak and medium-strength basic sites on the samples. 30 The TPD profiles of CaCO 3 and MgO are broad, suggesting that different basic sites with diverse strengths are present on the surfaces of the samples, binding CO 2 with different energies and coordinates. The CO 2 desorption peak at 630 °C in the TPD profile of MgO may be associated with the decomposition of MgCO 3 originally present in the structure of the synthesized MgO nanoparticles, as confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy (Figure S2, Supporting Information).…”
