Effect of γ‐Oryzanol on Serum Lipid Peroxide Level and Clinical Symptoms of Patients with Climacteric Disturbances

Abstract: The effect of y-Oryzanol, ferulic acid esters obtained from rice oil, on climacteric disturbances was studied with special reference to lipid peroxide levels in the sera of patient. 300 mg of y-Oryzanol was administered daily to each patient for 4 to 8 weeks. In 85% of 40 cases the effect on the climacteric disturbance was judged by the Kupperman method to be significant. In patients with climacteric disturbances, serum lipid peroxide levels were high, but were reduced significantly after administration of y-O… Show more

“…The fact that these natural compounds, including γ-oryzanol, have been demonstrated as Nrf2 inducers provides new insights into their mechanisms of actions supporting and encouraging their use. Indeed, γ-oryzanol is already used as a prescription drug in Japan to treat various conditions such as hyperlipidemia, irritable bowel syndrome, autonomic ataxia, and menopausal syndrome [ 224 , 225 , 226 ]. Γ-Oryzanol is certainly a promising natural dietary compound, being present in high amounts in the principal grain of human diet.…”

“…[8][9][10][11] Ferulic acid was found to increase the serum level of estrogen, improve menopausal symptoms in postmenopausal rat model or women, and display estrogen-like effect. 12,13 Some of the LC active compounds were found to exhibit vasorelaxation effects in rat isolated aorta. [14][15][16] In addition, LC has been used, alone or in combination with other herbs, for the improvement of menstrual disorders, such as irregular menses, amenorrhoea and dysmenorrhoea.…”
