Effect of Zr-Modified SiO2-Supported Metallocene/MAO Catalyst on Copolymerization of Ethylene/1-Octene

Abstract: The study revealed enhancement (four to seven times) of catalytic activities for ethylene/1-octene copolymerization via the Zr-modified SiO 2 -supported the metallocene/MAO catalyst. Increased activity can be attributed to an increase in absorption ability of MAO on the modified support. In addition, the strong interaction between MAO and the support was also considered.

“…In order to prove the interaction between the tungsten oxide and support, TGA measurement was performed. The TGA can provide the useful information on the degree of interaction for adsorbed species bound to support in terms of weight loss and removal temperature [20,[30][31][32][33]. The TGA profiles for all catalysts are shown in Fig.…”

“…The fragmentation of silica supported catalyst and the resulting morphology of olefin polymer depend upon many factors, such as silica morphology, catalyst immobilization procedure, polymer molecular weight, and reaction conditions. As a result, different polymer morphologies are frequently reported depending upon the specific catalyst compositions and silica types …”

“…The exterior and interior structures of polymer particles synthesized over silica‐supported catalysts have been analyzed by many researchers using scanning and transmission electron microscopy . However, directly observing the growth of polymer at the catalyst sites and to understand how the polymer growth leads to specific particle morphology has been a difficult problem.…”

“…The most typical example was the application of chemically modified silica to Phillips catalyst . ZN and metallocene catalysts were also reported to benefit much from support modification . In this work, we synthesized a series of compounding supports by modifying silica with alumina, zirconia, and titania, respectively.…”

“…[43] ZN and metallocene catalysts were also reported to benefit much from support modification. [44][45][46] In this work, we synthesized a series of compounding supports by modifying silica with alumina, zirconia, and titania, respectively. A series of vanadium-oxide-based catalysts supported with the modified and unmodified silica was prepared as well.…”
