Effect of Zr Impregnation on Clay-Based Materials for H2O2-Assisted Photocatalytic Wet Oxidation of Winery Wastewater

Abstract: UV-activated Zr-doped composites were successfully produced through the impregnation of Zr on the crystal lattice of different clay materials by a one-step route. Fixing the amount of Zr available for dopage (4%), the influence of different supports, submitted to different chemical treatments, on the photocatalytic activity of the resulting Zr-doped pillared clay materials (PILC) was assessed. Both chemical characterization and structural characterization suggest that the immobilization of Zr on montmorillonit… Show more

“…The obtained results do not indicate that a synergistic effect is present as in other studies for similar systems [22,23]. Adding the clay samples in the system considerably increased the process efficiency up to 99.9% for both dyes and oxidation agents.…”

“…Cu/Al-pillared clay was prepared as a combination of intercalated poly(hydroxy)aluminum (Al 3 (OH) 4 5+ ) and copper Cu 3 (OH) 4 2+ species, using slow titration to produce AlCl 3 and CuCl 2 . The molar ratio of Cu 2+ :(Al 3+ +Cu 2+ ) in the precursor solution affected the increasing d 001 and specific surface area [ 119 ]; the optimum synthesis conditions were a Cu:(Al+Cu) molar ratio of 0.1:1 and OH:Al = 2.5:1 [ 120 ]. Those ratios determined the characteristics of the material, which play an important role in the electrocatalytic degradation of CO 2 as well as oxidative features in CWPO.…”
