Effect of yarn type on moisture transfer characteristics of double-face knitted fabrics for active sportswear

Abstract: The properties of any clothing is decided by the constituent of its fibres, yarn and fabric structure. As clothing it should satisfy the wearer both in functional and aesthetic aspects. Thermal comfort is related to the temperature of the body and micro-environment between the fabric layer and the skin. The heat generated by the human body during strenuous activity must be dissipated to the external environment through the clothing. So the clothing worn next to skin should have the property of transferring the… Show more

“…It is interesting to note that PP fabric has distinctly the maximum absorption capacity for the quilted fabric form among all other fabrics, not in harmony with a preceding study reporting polyester's better absorption capacity than PP (Suganthi and Senthilkumar, 2018). The filament nature of PP yarn enhancing transfer of the liquid to the mid-layer (Sathish Babu et al ., 2020) and moderate density of PP fabric are thought to be the reasons of the mentioned higher liquid holding capacity. CV, CV/LI and PET/CV followed PP with statistically identical performances and the minimum absorption capacity values belong to TEN and PET fabrics (statistically identical) (Table 3).…”

“…Textiles with excellent comfort performance are gaining more interests in the global market as the living standards improved. Therefore, the effect of fabrics and their interactions with human skin has been a renowned area for researchers (Sathish Babu et al ., 2020; Cheng et al ., 2021). Generally, a great thermal and moisture management capacity of fabrics is considerable in improving the comfort properties of clothing (Eryuruk, 2020; Angelova et al ., 2017), especially for summer and sports clothing.…”

“…Knitting needles draw newly formed loops from old loops, and the action is repeated for whole fabric formation. 68 Knitting comprises of two types termed warp and weft knitting. In weft knitting, yarn runs along the widthwise (weft) direction of the fabric, and such knitted fabrics can be raveled by pulling a single yarn from an end.…”
