“…Our follow-up observations confirmed that persistent day-night RSW accelerates the progression toward MetS among the e-ALT workers. e-ALT can work with other risk factors to worsen the inflammatory state [30] , and shift work brings about longterm oxidative stress [31] ; therefore a possible explanation for our male shift workers with e-ALT tending to develop MetS might be aggravated systemic chronic inflammatory reactions [37,38] .
