Effect of Welding Parameters on Weld Bead Shape for Welds Done Underwater

Abstract: Abstract:The desire to model a control system so as to optimize the welding process parameters and the effect of the environment during underwater wet welding makes it necessary to study the effects of these parameters as it affects the weld bead geometry of welds achieved in underwater welding. The objective of this paper is to analyze how welding arc current, voltage, speed, and the effect of the water environment affect the weld bead geometry such as bead width, penetration, and reinforcement height. Compar… Show more

“…Esos resultados están de acuerdo con los reportados por Li et al [14]. Por su parte, Emuejevoke Omajene et al [23], también reportan que un incremento en la corriente de soldadura tiende a aumentar la penetración y el refuerzo de los cordones realizados. Por otro lado, es evidente que la tensión eléctrica determina la forma de la sección transversal del cordón y su apariencia.…”

“…Spattering occurs under many factors, such as an unstable arc, and/or unclean joint surface due to inadequate current/voltage supply, etc. [23,24]. The severe melting occurs at high current due to high input according to Equation (1).…”

“…The greater convective heat transfer coefficient in water compared to air was shown to result in rapid cooling during underwater welding. A low water temperature can result in more inclusions and a higher diffusible hydrogen level in the coarse grain heat-affected zone, which leads to a greater cracking tendency [10].…”
