“…In the case of B6, we also found that it increased the surround suppression of visual contrast detection, which argues for an inhibitory GABA related underlying mechanism. Given that surround suppression is found to be abnormal in many patient groups, this suggests that the efficacy of high‐dose Vitamin B6 should be determined in these groups; for example, Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is effective as a treatment for severe migraine (Chen et al., 2021 ), but also one RCT found that B6 given alone is also effective for migraine with visual symptoms, and several other RCT's have produced positive results for B6 as part of a combination supplement for migraine (Liampas et al., 2020 ). Furthermore, measuring the effects of other candidate micronutrients on the same outcome variables as those employed here may identify a list of micronutrients that could be combined and tested as a ‘nutritional psychiatry’ treatment for conditions such as anxiety and depression.…”

“…Although most of these studies were done decades ago, their results still remain relevant in today's world. Furthermore, inhibitory molecules of riboflavin or magnesium, or the use of botulinum toxin to stop the release of acetylcholine in presynaptic channels, have also been used in this preventative strategy to deal with oxidative or hyperexcitability processes in neurons and have shown superiority over placebo [1][2][3][4][5][6]30,31].…”

“…One of those advances is in the discovery of receptors and molecules that play a part in pathophysiology. Mutations in TREK (a potassium background channel with two pore domains that is widely distributed in the nervous system) gene expression, a gene that encodes instructions for a subset of potassium ion channels, were discovered in 2010 by some researchers [3, [31][32][33][34][35][36][37]. Potassium channels are responsible for regulating nerve cells' resting membrane potentials, and mutations in them may lead to overexcitation resulting in response to lower pain levels [3,31-37] and/or CGRP.…”

“…A 2021 systematic review and meta-analyses of eight randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and one clinical controlled trial (N5673) evaluated vitamin B2 for migraine prophylaxis. 1 Studies were conducted in Germany, India, America, Iran, and Belgium. Inclusion criteria included adult patients with migraine, with or without aura, using vitamin B2 alone or vitamin complex (containing vitamin B2) as the intervention.…”
