Effect of vine and fruit pruning on yield attributes of two watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) cultivars

Abstract: This study was carried out to determine the effect of vine and fruit pruning on watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) yield. Five pruning methods: P1=no pruning at all, P2=pruning to four vines with two fruits per vine, P3=pruning to four vines with one fruit per vine, P4=pruning to three vines with two fruits per vine and P5=pruning to three vines with one fruit per vine were evaluated on two watermelon cultivars: ‘Sugar baby’ and ‘Julie F1’ under a factorial randomized complete block design with three replications.… Show more

“…Lembah Palu showed that the dosage of K fertilizer significantly affected all growth parameters except the number of tillers and leaf area, as well as all yield parameters, namely the number of bulb tubers, diameter of tubers, fresh weight of tubers, dry weight of tubers, and production where fertilizer doses of 100 kg K ha -1 and 250 kg K ha -1 show higher yields than other treatments. Ndereyimana et al (2021) showed that there was an interaction of branches pruning and potassium fertilization on fruit weight, fruit length, fruit diameter, and fruit water content of melon. When a branch is pruned at the 20th internode, it has a big effect on the weight, length, diameter, water content, thickness, softness, and total sugar content of the fruit.…”
