EFFECT OF THYROXINE UPON SUCCINIC OXIDASE SYSTEM OF HEART MUSCLE AND ADRENAL CORTEX OF DOG IN VITRO

“…As has been pointed out in the preceding paper by Katsura(1954), the effect of thyroxine upon the system of respiratory enzymes has been variously reported by different workers, no consistent information being offered with this respect. Assuming that such a circumstance might be due to difference in experimental conditions, the author cited made observations on the effect of the hormone upon succinic oxidase system as a whole in homogenates of several organs of the dog such as heart muscle, adrenal cortex and thyroid with special reference to the effect of hormone concentration in a wide range.…”

“…The composition of the reaction mixture was as follows:In the main tube:1) 0.1M K2HPO4-KH2PO4 buffer (PH 7.4) 1.3 ml., 2) 0.2% homogenate 0.6ml., 3) fig. 1, B).…”

“…In his recent paper, Katsura(1954) Mouse Whole Lever Homogenate As the crude enzyme source of succinic oxidase system, whole liver homogenate was used for the present purpose of study. Liver was taken out from decapitated mouse, and homogenized after the method of Potter and Elvehjein(1946) directly after excision.…”
