Effect of Thiosemicarbazones on Corrosion of Steel in Phosphoric Acid Produced by Wet Process

Abstract: Corrosion inhibition of steel in phosphoric acid (H 3 PO 4 ) by thiosemicarbazide derivatives was studied using different chemical and electrochemical techniques. Protection efficiency up to 99% was obtained with small amounts (10 -4 M) of cinnamaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (CTSCN). The order of increasing inhibition efficiency was correlated with the modification of the molecular structure of the inhibitors. Empirical kinetic relationship was obtained describing the experimental data obtained from the differen… Show more

“…Little work appears to have been done on the inhibition of steel corrosion in H 3 PO 4 particularly at high concentrations. Khamis et al [21] studied the effect of some thiosemicarbazones on the corrosion of steel in phosphoric acid produced by the wet process. They found that cinnamaldhyde thiosemicarbazone (CTSCN) is the best of the studied compounds with an inhibition efficiency up to 99% at 1 · 10 )4 M.…”

“…Theoretically, the adsorption process can be regarded as a single substi tutional process in which an inhibitor molecule, I, in the aqueous phase substitutes an "x" number of water molecules adsorbed on the metal surface [54] vis,…”

“…Jianguo et al [11] proposed that two polymers of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and polyethyleimine (PEI) were suitable as corrosion inhibitors for low carbon steel in 7.0 M H 3 PO 4 , and inhibition efficiency (IE) values of PVP and PEI were 89 and 90% at 30°C, respectively. Khamis et al [12] investigated the corrosion inhibition of steel in 35% H 3 PO 4 by some thiosemicarbazide derivatives. Their results showed that the protection efficiency of all the compounds reached up to 99%.…”
