Effect of thermocycling on the bond strength between dual-cured resin cements and zirconium-oxide ceramics

Abstract: The present study evaluated the durability of bond strength between zirconia and 3 different resin cements. Thirty stabilized tetragonal zirconium-dioxide blocks were duplicated in dual-curing resin core build-up material specimens. Resin blocks were randomly luted to zirconium surfaces using 1) Clearfil Esthetic Cement (CLF), 2) RelyX Unicem Aplicap (RELX), or 3) Multilink Automix (MLA). After 24 h, half of the specimens from each of the 3 groups were loaded in tension until fracture (0.5 mm/min). The remaini… Show more

“…Conversely, zirconia ceramic is not acid etchable material. Therefore, when zirconia ceramic inlay and onlay groups were subjected to thermocycling, there was a degradation of luting composite/zirconia ceramic bonds and this could be the reason for the adhesive failure in zirconia groups …”

“…Therefore, these ceramics are not suitable for acid etching 8,[14][15][16] . For this reason, surface treatment methods ranging from air abrasion with aluminum oxide (Al 2O3) 8,[17][18][19][20] and silica coating with silica-modified Al2O3 particles 9,17,18,21) to laser application are frequently used on Y-TZP restorations.…”

“…23 Yapılan bir başka çalışmada ise Clearfil Esthetic siman, Rely X ve Multilink automix simanları karşılaştırılmış ve termal döngü sonrası Multilink automix'in bağlanma direnci termal döngü sonrası değişmezken Clearfil Esthetic siman ve Rely X simanlarının bağlanma direnci termal döngü sonrası düşmektedir. 24 Çalışmamızda da termal döngü uygulamasının yapıştırıcı siman sistemlerinin bağlanma direnci değerleri üzerine etkileri araştırılmıştır. Yüzey hazırlama işlemlerinden kumlama, zirconia primer ve rocatec ile hazırlanan gruplarda Panavia F ile simante edilmiş örneklerde termal döngü sonrası bağlanma direnci değerleri düşerken, Ceramic Primer ve CoJet ile hazırlanan gruplarda Panavia F ile simante edilmiş örneklerin bağlanma direnci değerleri termal döngü sonrası değişmemektedir.…”
