Effect of Thermo-Elastic Damping on Transverse Waves Propagating in a Single-Wall Carbon Nanotube

Abstract: This paper concerned with the study of the effect of thermo-elastic damping on transverse waves propagating in a single-wall carbon nanotube. The Q-factor for thermo-elastic damping is investigated for transverse wave propagating in the nanotube. As a physical model, cylindrical shell is considered and the Donnell-Mushtari-Vlasov approach is applied. The influences of the room temperature and radial thickness of the nanotube on the vibration behaviors are discussed. The effects of the room temperature and radi… Show more

“…In this regard, the effects of small scale and initial stress on the dynamic response of SWCNTs are studied in some detail. For this purpose, the Young modulus E = 1 TPa, the mass density ρ = 1340 kg/m 3 and the Poisson ratio ν = 0.27 [35] and the SWCNT was the (40,0) zigzag tube with an effective diameter of 3.13 nm.…”

“…Furthermore, Wang et al [32] used a nonlocal Timoshenko beam model to deal with free vibration of micro-and nanobeams with initial stress. The vibrations of single-and multi-wall carbon nanotubes have been studied by various authors [33][34][35][36][37].…”

“…Tang and Ding [45] presented the non‐linear hygrothermal dynamics of a bi‐directionally functionally graded beam with coupled transverse and longitudinal displacements. The effects of thermoelastic damping on transverse waves propagating in an SWCNT have been investigated by Selim [46]. To the best of the author's knowledge, the effects of the temperature and thickness on the vibration of the SWCNT using thermoelasticity theory neglecting the nanotube length accomplished in previous works, while the experimental researches reveal that the effect of the length of the nanotube is important for vibrational analysis.…”
