Effect of the Preparation Method of LaSrCoFeOx Perovskites on the Activity of N2O Decomposition

Abstract: N2O remains a major greenhouse gas and contributor to global warming, therefore developing a catalyst that can decompose N2O at low temperatures is of global importance. We have investigated the use of LaSrCoFeOx perovskites for N2O decomposition and the effect of surface area, A and B site elements, Co–O bond strength, redox capabilities and oxygen mobility have been studied. It was found that by using a citric acid preparation method, perovskites with strong redox capabilities and weak Co–O bonds can be form… Show more

“…36 Therefore, it is expected that the oxygen vacancy sites at the surface of CBO and BCO can bind with the oxygen of N 2 O and initiate the decomposition of N 2 O as described in eqn ( 4) and ( 5). 55 The pictorial representation of the plausible mechanism is provided in Fig. 7.…”

“…The application in thermal barrier coatings was also considered, whereby layered perovskites of so-called Ruddlesden–Popper structure have an exceptional low thermal conductivity . Chemical, combustion-, , environmental, , , photo-, , and electrocatalysis are other areas of potential use. , , Electrocatalysis includes high-temperature solid-oxide electrolysis cells and water splitting. Photocatalysis includes water splitting , and CO 2 conversions . Emery et al performed a computational screening of perovskites for the solar-driven thermochemical splitting of water, resulting in 139 promising candidates.…”

“…Umicore also developed various perovskite‐based formulations [19] . Recently, hydrothermal microwave‐synthesized LaFeO 3 catalyst [9b] and La 0.75 Sr 0.25 CoO x , SrCo 0.81 Fe 0.19 O x and their mixture have also been investigated for N2O decomposition [20] . However, it should be mentioned that most of those studies were carried out under moderate conditions where steam and NO x content in the reaction mixture is far away from the real exhaust gas.…”
