Effect of the nature of substituents at the phosphorus atom on extraction properties of phosphorylketones toward f-elements

Abstract: Extraction abilities of phosphorylketones with alkyl and cycloalkyl substituents at the phos phorus atom R 2 P(O)CH 2 CH 2 C(O)Me (R = Pr i , Bu t ) and R 2 P(O)CHPhCH 2 C(O)Me (R = Pr i , cyclo C 6 H 11 ) toward U VI , Th IV , and a series of tervalent lanthanides (La III , Nd III , Ho III , Yb III ) were studied. The efficiencies and selectivities of recovery of f elements from nitric acid solutions to chloroform by these ligands were compared with extraction properties of both the model phosphorylketones wi… Show more

“…On the other hand, the selectivity of ligands BPO-2 and BPO-3 for Yb(III) towards the other metal was good (D Yb E 4, D La and D Nd = 0.4-1 for BPO-2 and BPO-3, respectively, at 4 M HNO 3 ). 103 The reduction of the ketone to an alcohol led to a reversal of the selectivity, compared to phosphorylketones. Ligands BPO-6-8 (Chart 14) showed a preference for light Ln(III) over heavier ones, followed by U(VI).…”
