Two new inorganic–organic hybrid compounds: [Co(H2O)2(bimb)2]2[SiW12O40] (1) and [Co2(H2O)(bimb)4](HBW12O40)·H2O (2) (bimb = 1,3-bis(1-imidazoly)benzene), have been synthesized under the same hydrothermal conditions and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, IR spectra, elemental analyses and powder X-ray diffraction. Structural analyses show that 1 displays a 1D polymeric chain, whereas 2 presents a complicated 3D self-penetrating framework. The distinct structural features of the two compounds suggest that the charge of the Keggin anions should play a significant role in the process of assembly. The electrochemical properties of 1 and 2 were investigated in detail.

A new polyoxometalate-based 3D porous framework with inorganic molecular nanocage unit, (H 2 dap)[K(H 2 O) 2 (V 10 O 28) 0.5 ] (1) (dap = 1,2-diaminopropane), has been synthesized and characterized by routine methods. In 1, the decavanadate clusters, as twelve-dentate connectors, link eight potassium ions to form a 3D porous framework with inorganic molecular cage units. There are two dap ligand molecules occupying in each inorganic molecular cage. Furthermore, the electrochemical properties of 1 were studied, which indicate that 1 has a good electrocatalytic activity towards reduction of iodate (IO − 3) ascribed to the V-center.

By introducing mixed-ligands en and ox, Cu 2+ and different polyoxotungstates as synthons, two new polyoxotungstate-based inorganic-organic hybrid compounds {[Cu 2 (en) 2 (ox)][HPW 12 O 40 ]} • (en) 2 • 2H 2 O (1) and {[Cu 2 (en) 2 (ox)] [H 3 BW 12 O 40 ]} • (en) 2 • 2H 2 O (2) (en = ethylenediamine and ox = oxalate), were obtained in identical hydrothermal conditions and further characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Structural analyses revealed that both compounds are isostructural, and show one-dimensional (1D) chain constructed by [XW 12 O 40 ] n− (X = P 1, B 2) Keggin-type polyoxoanions and [Cu 2 (en) 2 (ox)] 2+ dinuclear copper subunits. The electrochemical experiments indicated that 1-based carbon paste electrode possesses high catalytic efficiency and selectivity towards reduction of H 2 O 2 , and thus 1 has potential to detect H 2 O 2 .
