Effect of the Feeding T-Junctions in the Performance of Planar Waveguide Slot Arrays

Abstract: An improved analysis procedure for planar waveguide\ud slot arrays has been devised to evaluate the effect of the\ud feeding T-junctions on the radiated far field. The T-junctions have\ud been modelled as five-port networks. A hybrid matrix has been\ud derived for each five-port network by analyzing the interaction\ud between a T-junction and the slot couplers next to it with a\ud method of moments (MoM) procedure. Then, the hybrid matrices\ud have been properly inserted in the array equivalent circuit. The\ud… Show more

“…Antenna design has been a matter of intuition and brute-force computation from the beginning (see e.g., [1,2]). In the past literature, this task has been faced at different levels, from simple formulas [3] to sophisticated synthesis techniques [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11], heuristic models [12,13], or one of the different random optimization procedures proposed so far [14][15][16][17][18].…”

“…At the input node of the th radiating waveguide (Figure 4), the inclined coupling slot feeding the waveguide is modeled (being resonant) as an ideal transformer, with a current transformation ratio equal to [30,[32][33][34]. The input impedance seen at the input of this series-series transformer is therefore…”

“…In turn, each feeding guide is commonly fed using coupling slots cut in the main waveguide feeding network [11]. Alternatively, a properly designed T-junction can be used to replace the slot coupler [12]. As was shown in [12][13][14], the feeding T-junction network can degrade the array performance because the slot couplers strongly interact with the nearest radiating slots.…”
