“…For in all three of the papers, the authors did not relate measurements of phys iologically active levels of testosterone to cognitive per formance, but rather used supposed androgen indicators (various head and body measurements along with hair characteristics and muscle development; 17-ketosteroid excretions were only used by Klaiber et al (1967]). Thus, the androgen levels were estimated using variables, all of which -as cited in the above-mentioned works -had been conjectured by Dorfman and Shipley [1956], Tan ner et al [1959], Tanner [1962], Joss et al [1963], Tan ner [ 1969], and Rosenfield [ 1971 ] to be related to andro gens. Newer studies [summarized in Bardin and Catterall, 1981;Vague, 1983; in which serum hormone deter minations have been carried out using radioimmunoas says and in which some determinations of free testoster one in the saliva have also been made have shown that all the relationships between testosterone and physique conjectured earlier either are not in the direction ex pected or are not to T^ at all, but rather to DHT, free testosterone, or to the interrelationships between the hormones.…”

“…•*• growing mice (Silberberg & Silberberg, 1956, 1961Howard, 1963) rats (Joss, Zuppinger, & Sobel, 1963;Ronning, Makinen, Lathimer, & Raijola, 1964), and children (Geller, 1964) advanced skeletal maturation. These compounds also accelerated the articular aging changes which may be considered as pacemakers for the evolution of senile osteoarthrosis (Weichselbaum, 1877;Silberberg & Silberberg, 1941, 1961aBennett, Waine, & Bauer, 1942;de Palma, 1957;Papadia, Montinari, & Cagnazzo, 1959).…”
