Effect of Temperatures and Moisture Content on the Fracture Properties of Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC)

Abstract: This research will help to improve our understanding of the fracture properties of ECC at low temperatures (long-term low temperatures, freeze–thaw) and evaluate the safety properties of ECC under low-temperature conditions. Three levels of saturation (saturated, semi-saturated, and dry), four target temperatures (20, 0, −20, and −60 °C), and the effect of the coupled of the two on the mode I fracture properties of ECC were investigated. Then, we compared and analyzed the fracture properties of ECC loaded at 2… Show more

“…Concrete is a typical nonuniform material, widely used in the construction field, bridge foundation, water supply, and drainage engineering; concrete mechanical properties are greatly affected by temperature and humidity. During the construction of Qinghai-Tibet railway, the influence of low temperature environment on the mechanical properties of concrete cannot be ignored [1][2][3][4][5][6]. The Nazixia Dam is located in a cold climate, and its concrete slabs are required to be stable at low temperatures [7].…”

“…These cracks are saturated distributed multiple microcracks of less than 2 mm, and cracks with a controlled maximum crack width under 200 µm or even 60 µm [43,44]. These superior properties give ECC extensive applicability as repair/retrofit material and durable structure material [42,45].…”
