Effect of Temperature on the Mechanical Properties of Carbon Composites

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to investigate and analyze the effect of temperature on the mechanical properties of carbon composites, aluminum foam, and carbon nanotube reinforced aluminum foam. For this analysis, fatigue behavior of aluminum foam has been discussed, and interlaminar shear stress between single-walled carbon nanotube reinforced aluminum foam and multiwalled carbon nanotube reinforced aluminum foam has been compared. The comparison has shown that the interlaminar shear stress within the inter… Show more

“…As already mentioned, in addition to UV radiation, temperature is among the factors resulting in the destruction of polymer structure [20,21]. This has not escaped the attention of researchers seeking to determine the relationship arising between exposure to a change in conditioning temperature and progression in degradation [22][23][24][25][26]. Deter-mining the impact of conditioning of polymer composites on dynamic properties is important for analysing the properties of new materials, especially for specialised applications such as aerospace components [27].…”

“…The highest strain is obtained at a combination of 5 mm fiber length and a temperature of 25 ° C. This is because at low temperatures the bond between the matrix and the reinforcement becomes weak. The reason is the water vapor permeating the fibers damaging the fibers causing delamination [19], [20]. Strain increases due to the resistance response of the composite to the received tensile load so that the composite experiences stress and strain occurs as an effect of internal shifting at the atomic level on the particles that make up the composite, so that the composite experiences an increase in length or stretching.…”

“…A. Anvari studied the effect of temperature on the mechanical properties of carbon composites, he found that the interlaminar shear stress within the interface of single-walled carbon nanotube and aluminum foam is higher than that within the interface of multiwalled carbon nanotube and aluminum foam [23].…”
