Effect of Ta Content on Scratching Behavior of Ti-Al-Ta-N Coatings on Titanium Substrate

Abstract: The effect of Ta alloying on the structure, mechanical properties and scratching behavior of Ti-Al-N-based coatings deposited on Ti substrates by reactive direct-current magnetron sputtering is studied. It was found that increasing the Ta content in the Ti1-x-yAlxTayN coatings from y = 0 to y = 0.65 led to a decrease in hardness and Young’s modulus but an increase in the hardness-to-modulus ratio. This resulted in the reduction of the load-bearing capacity of the Ta-alloyed coatings and enhancement of their to… Show more

“…Historically, intellectual property rights have been proven to have two effects: incentivizing innovation, and diffusion of the property. 85 Intellectual property rights over their creations incentivizes the innovators to create more. 86 Since the protection is in exchange for disclosure of the creation, at the end of the expiry of the rights, these works fall into public domain, ensuring continued and free access for the society.…”

“…108 Therefore, when it came to the actual implementation of the transfer of technology provisions, developing and least developed countries found that the promised bargain was not materializing in any benefits for them. 109 These concerns were raised at the Doha Ministerial Conference of 2001, which mandated that the TRIPS Council develop and implement a monitoring mechanism with mandatory reporting procedures to collect data regarding the implementation of article 66.2. 110 Accordingly in February 2003, the TRIPS Council passed a decision making it compulsory to submit reports every three years, giving an overview of the incentives given to private enterprises and institutions in a country to encourage transfer of technology to LDCs.…”
