Effect of Suo Quan Wan on the bladder function of aging rats based on the β-adrenoceptor

Abstract: Suo Quan Wan (SQW) has been used to treat lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in elderly patients for hundreds of years in China. β-adrenoceptors (β-ARs), particularly β3-adrenoceptor (β3-AR), was reported to be important in the bladder dysfunction of the elderly. The present study was conducted to explore the effect of β-AR, and particularly the β3-adrenoceptor, in aging rat bladder function in vitro and to test the therapeutic effect of SQW on LUTS in an aging rat model based on the β3-adrenoceptor. Briefly,… Show more

“…Aging is mainly characterized by a progressive dysfunction of metabolism and various physiological roles, such as maintaining metabolic rate and delaying cell aging ( 1 , 2 ). Clinically, abnormalities of the metabolism and physiological functions can affect the morbidity and mortality of patients.…”

“…In recent years, the use of traditional Chinese medicine and natural products in the treatment of diabetic and its complications has become noteworthy due to its effectiveness and less toxicity [11]. Radix Linderae (RL; named Wu-Yao in Chinese), the dried root of Lindera aggregata (Sims) Kosterm, was the main component of Suo Quan Wan, which has been shown to enhance bladder storage and contraction ability [12] and improve bladder voiding function based on the regulation of transient receptor potential vanilloid-1 (TRPV1) [13, 14]. Furthermore, RL has been used for centuries to combat frequent urination and other urinary bladder diseases [1517].…”

“…[ 22 ] Suoquan is a mixture of Alpinia oxyphylla Miq., Dioscorea opposita Thunb., and Radix Lindera, prepared at a ratio of 1:1:1, and is used to warm kidney yang and expel cold while relieving frequent urination by stopping leakage. [ 23 – 25 ] In South Korea, Suoquan is widely used for ameliorating urinary tract symptoms, such as NE and frequent or urgent urination. [ 26 ] Various forms of Suoquan are available, such as pills, capsules, tablets, and decoctions.…”
