EFFECT OF STOCKING DENSITY ON GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF DOMESTICATED BARB (Barbonymus balleroides)

Abstract: Barb (Barbonymus balleroides) considerably has economic potential as aquaculture commodity. However, there was still lack of development on aquaculture for this species. This study was conducted to observe the effect of different stocking density on growth of barb. The fish (body weight: 14.89 ± 0.13 g) were stocked in nine floating nets (dimension: 2 m x 2 m x 1 m) inside the concrete ponds with three stocking density treatments (10, 15, and 20 fish/m3). Each treatment consisted of three replications. Fish we… Show more

“…In some domesticated fish, such as Asian redtail catfish [12], domesticated fry has utilized artificial feed to have a relatively high survival rate. In addition, the relatively low stocking density of fish in this study was also thought to have a role in reducing stress in fish, thereby increasing the chances of high survival, as in the case with Asian redtail catfish [13] Growth is an increase in length, weight, or volume in a specific time. Growth can be used as one of the indicators to evaluate the physiological conditions of individuals.…”

“…Hasil pertumbuhan dan sintasan terbaik penelitian ini diperoleh pada padat penebaran rendah. Hal yang serupa diperoleh pada ikan lalawak (Barbonymus balleroides) (Arifin et al, 2017a). Padat tebar merupakan salah satu faktor luar yang berpengaruh terhadap keragaan pertumbuhan dalam pemeliharaan ikan.…”

“…Stocking density is, after feeding and nutrition, the most influential factor on the performance of most aquaculture species (Andrade et al 2015, Millán-Cubillo et al 2016, Arifin et al 2017, Shajib et al 2017, Long et al 2019, Lorenzen & Camp 2019. It determines, first of all, the quality of the rearing environment, and second, influence the comfort of the animals in their feeding, movement, resting (MacIntyre et al 2008, Person-Le Ruyet et al 2008, Tsuzuki et al 2008, Pinho et al 2016, Costa et al 2017 and thus the importance of studying in aquaculture.…”
