Abstract:Interaction of staphylococcal protein A (SPA) with human serum depressed the ability of such serum to neutralize herpes simplex virus (HSV)-antibody complexes formed in vitro or isolated in vivo from patients with recurrent herpes labialis. SPA-induced depression of serum-dependent virus neutralization appeared to be due to consumption of complement by SPA. In addition, SPA attached to antibody-treated, HSV-infected cells and inhibited complementmediated immune cytolysis. The amount of inhibition obtained depe… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
