Effect of Sowing Dates on Seed Yield, Yield Traits and Oil Content of Safflower in Northwest Turkey

Abstract: The aim of this research was to evaluate the impact of variety, location and sowing dates on some yield and quality traits of safflower. The field experiments of this study were carried out in spring season of 2017 and 2018 under ecological conditions of the Suleymanpasa and Malkara districts of Tekirdag. The experiment was laid out as a split plot design based on randomized complete block design with three replications, in which cultivars constituted the main plot with two varieties (Dincer and Balci), and so… Show more

“…Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L., Asteraceae) is a multi-purpose alternative oilseed crop that is valuable because of its tolerance to cold, drought, salinity and low input costs (Elfadl et al, 2009;Johnston et al, 2002). It is one of the valuable oil crops in the world and it contains 25%-45% oil in its seeds, is grown in spring and winter, has two different types as linoleic (18:2n6) and oleic (18:1n9), with high quality vegetable oil (Culpan, 2023;Culpan and Arslan, 2022a, b). Safflower is grown in more than 20 countries around the world.…”

“…The yield increasing and improving the quality of alfalfa is of great importance for protein problem deciding under now existing market relations. A number of studies are related to search opportunities for increasing alfalfa forage yield by applying different agrotechnical practices -optimal density; intensity of utilization; intercropping, balanced fertilization (Sevov et al, 2007;Ceylan et al, 2009;Petkovic et al, 2019;Basaran et al, 2020).…”

“…In addition to these, various parts of the safflower plant are used, some of which are stem, leaf, seed and flower parts (Beyyavaş and Dogan, 2022). Although the safflower plant withstands many adverse conditions, its yield decreases under stress conditions (Jam et al, 2023;Culpan, 2023).…”
