Effect of some insecticides alone and in combination with salicylic acid against aphid, Aphis gossypii, and whitefly Bemisia tabaci on the cotton field

Abstract: Background: Cotton is one of the most important industrial crops in Egypt and worldwide. During its growth stages, cotton is threatened by several pests including aphids (Aphis gossypii Glover) and whiteflies (Bemisia tabaci) which lead to deleterious effects on cotton growth, yield, and quality. Due to health and environmental hazards of pesticides, it is important to reduce them by using eco-friendly alternatives. Two field experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of some insecticides including… Show more

“…Nymph population experienced sharp decline after 10 WAP up to13 WAP. The decline in the nymph population was caused by insecticide application performed by the farmers, high rainfall conditions, and the presence of parasitoids in the field (El-Sherbeni et al 2019). The population of parasitoid Eretmocerus sp.…”

“…However, insecticide resistance was reported in MEAM1 to different insecticides in Brazil (Silva et al, 2009;DĂąngelo et al, 2018). Insecticide susceptibility of species is a factor that needs to be known because it may drive the competition among MEAM1 and MED species and their distribution in different areas and crops in Brazilian territory (Cordeiro et al, 2014;Horowitz et al, 2005;El-Sherbeni et al, 2019).…”

“…Ali and Zedan [36] reported that the mixture of emamectin benzoate+lambdacyhalothrin proved to be superior achieving a reduction level 80.6% of the tomato leaf miner, Tuta absoluta. El-Sherbeni et al [37] evaluated the efficiency of three insecticides mixed with salicylic acid (SA) on A. gossypii, and B. tabaci on a cotton field. They found that, the greatest actual mixture was profenofos at 75% of recommended dosage + SA at a concentration of 1 mM intended for aphids (reduction…”
