“…Araki et al (2007b) observed groundwater levels on a transect plot across a stream 7 km west from the Tower site; groundwater levels changed seasonally in a depth of 300 cm, and some parts on the transect plot were waterlogged when the groundwater table reached the surface in August. The saturated hydraulic conductivity of the top soil in forested parts of this area (360 mm/h; Shinomiya et al 2007) is more than twice larger than the observed maximum rainfall intensity (160 mm/h).
