Effect of sodium fluoride varnish, Gluma, and Er,Cr:YSGG laser in dentin hypersensitivity treatment: a 6-month clinical trial

Abstract: Dentinal hypersensitivity (DH) is a common clinical condition usually associated with exposed dentinal surfaces. The aim of this study was to study the effect of sodium fluoride varnish, Gluma, and Er,Cr:YSGG laser, in the dentin hypersensitivity treatment. One hundred sixty-five teeth with dentin hypersensitivity in 55 patients were involved in this study. Teeth are divided into five groups based on the received treatment (n = 33): G group: Gluma; F group: sodium fluoride varnish (5%); L group: Er,Cr:YSGG las… Show more

“…Various laser wavelengths have been utilized for the reduction of the DH symptoms. More specifically, diodes (810-980 nm) [139][140][141], neodymium: yttrium-aluminum-garnet-Nd:YAG (1064 nm) [142,143], erbium: yttrium-aluminum-garnet-Er:YAG (2940 nm) [138,144], erbium, chromium: yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet-Er,Cr:YSGG (2780 nm) [76,145], and carbon dioxide-CO 2 (10,600 nm) [146,147] lasers have been employed against DH.…”

“…In dental practice, dentinal hypersensitivity (DH) is a prevalent disease, especially in patients with abrasion, gingival recession, and tooth erosion [1]. It is a painful condition generated by the exposed cervical dentin, causing a severe, stabbing pain [2].…”

“…Post-operative sensitivity is often managed with the use of dental desensitizers, which work by addressing hypersensitivity after composite restorations through the occlusion or sealing of the dentinal tubules, thereby eliminating or reducing post-operative sensitivity [5].…”
