Effect of Socio-Economic Status on Marital Adjustment Among Working Non-Working Housewives

Abstract

This paper examines the effect of Socioeconomic Status on Marital Adjustment among working class and non-working class women in Lucknow city in India. The survey research design was used for the study. The sample consisted of 30 subjects selected through random sampling procedure. Data was collected using the Marital Adjustment Questionnaire & SES scale that was constructed by the researchers. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. For the study it was hypothesized that there will be a significant difference in the marital adjustment among employed and non-employed women. The existing level of each dimension of marital adjustment among employed and non-employed women is presented in terms of level of significance difference and these parameters are tested for their difference across groups of women by applying ANOVA. Our results show that there is no significance difference among employed and non-employed women. Counselors can use this information to assist couples with marital difficulties. The implications of the findings are discussed.
