Effect of Silver Nanoparticles With Thermoplastic Polyurethane on Postoperative Rehabilitation of Diabetic Patients With Open Fracture of Lower Extremities

Abstract: ObjectiveThis retrospective study aims to explore the effect of silver nanoparticles with thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU/NS) on the rehabilitation of diabetic patients with open fracture of lower extremities.MethodsDiabetic patients (n = 98) with open fracture of lower extremities treated in our hospital were analyzed retrospectively from June 2015 to December 2021. TPU/NS nanocomposites were prepared for postoperative treatment of diabetic patients with open fracture of lower extremities. First, the cultured… Show more

“…According to Bolton et al, 25 silver ions can bind to negatively charged bacteria, increase the permeability of the bacterial outer membrane, and induce bacterial apoptosis. The results of a study by Zhang et al 26 in China, entitled “Examining the effect of silver nanoparticles with thermoplastic polyurethane on postoperative rehabilitation of diabetic patients with lower limb open fracture” demonstrated that the use of this combination can both reduce the inflammation and unwanted reactions and lead to the wound healing by inhibiting the bacterial infection of the wound. Lázaro Martinez et al 19 suggested in their study that the silver ion dressings can continuously and effectively release silver ions, destroy the bacteria around the diabetic foot ulcer, improve the wound healing environment, and can also hydrate and soften necrotic tissues and clean the wound, and thereby, contribute to the wound infection reduction.…”

“…Zhang et al [ 94 ] conducted a study in which they explored the effectiveness of thermoplastic polyurethane dressings containing silver nanoparticles (TBU/NS) used in the treatment of open fractures in diabetic patients. TBU/NS dressing was used as a part of postoperative treatment, in the therapy of open fractures of the lower extremities.…”
