Effect Of SiC Particles On Sinterability Of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu P/M Alloy

Abstract: Premix Al-5.5Zn-2.5Mg-0.5Cu alloy powder was analyzed as matrix in this research. Gas atomized powder Al-9Si with 20% volume fraction of SiC particles was used as reinforcement and added into the alloy with varied concentration. Mix powders were compacted by dual action press with compaction pressure of 700 MPa. High volume fraction of SiC particles gave lower green density due to resistance of SiC particles to plastic deformation during compaction process and resulted voids between particles and this might re… Show more

“…2 Lubricant is supposed to be removed before reaching sintering temperature otherwise, it can hinder diffusion process between elements during sintering. 580 o C sintering temperature was chosen because at that temperature, this alloy powder is able to form optimum liquid phase to be able to achieve optimum sintering density without formation of particle coarsening as shown by previous results [7]. Fig.…”

“…The SEM image and particle size distribution of 316L austenitic stainless steel powder were showed in Figure 2. According to SEM image of this powder; particle size of powder has irregular shape that type of water atomized particle and particle size distribution of this powder showed the positively skewed particle size distribution due to mostly fine particles into the alloy [13][14][15]. Figure 2.…”

“…It was appeared that an equixed grains and two types with apparent origins, the first generated at the grain boundaries during the solidification process caused to segregation of the alloying elements when the second phase is widely formed near the grain boundaries. Many coarse precipitates are distinct within the constituted grains [36]. …”

“…593 K) and observed in roughly constant. It was considered to such a tendency is attributed to a falling offset of EF (Fermi Energy) from the valley of the pseudo-gap because of motion of EF to the location with larger density of states (DOS) causing to the reducing in the electrical resistivity magnitude and also considered [36,37] in Figure 5. Maximum electrical resistivity is obtained in value of 16.1x10 -2 Ω.m at about 299K for Alumix-431-1 specimen.…”
