Effect of short‐term fasting and re‐feeding on growth, digestive enzyme activities and antioxidant defence in yellowfin seabream,Acanthopagrus latus(Houttuyn, 1782)

Abstract: An 80‐day feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the influence of different short‐term fasting and re‐feeding strategies on growth and physiological responses in yellowfin seabream, Acanthopagrus latus (2.4 ± 0.2 g) fingerlings. “…Somatic indices like condition factor and hepatosomatic index are crude measures for both nutritional and health status of fish (Tamadoni et al, 2020). In the present study, significantly lower condition factor was found in fish fed diets S40 and S60 compared with fish fed diet C, while no statistically difference was found in condition factor between fish fed diet C and fish fed diets S40 + T and S60 + T. Similarly, significantly lower hepatosomatic index was found in fish fed diet S60 compared with fish fed diet C, while no statistically difference was found in hepatosomatic index between fish fed diet C and fish fed diet S60 + T. Those results suggest that nutritional and health status of largemouth bass will be changed when dietary fishmeal is substituted by soybean meal at high levels, which can be revised by dietary supplementation of taurine.…”
