With the proliferation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and the escalating electromagnetic environment in space, there has been growing attention and research focus on the strong electromagnetic effects and electromagnetic protection design of UAVs. This paper aims to introduce the potential strong electromagnetic interference that UAVs may encounter during flight. It specifically concentrates on three crucial subsystems: the datalink system, the flight control and navigation system, and the power system. The goal is to provide an overview of the current state of research on the strong electromagnetic effects of UAVs, along with a discussion of commonly employed research methods. Additionally, this paper introduces various means of strong electromagnetic protection that can be utilized for UAVs. Finally, it concludes with a summary of the research status and development trends concerning the effects of strong electromagnetic interference and the corresponding protection measures for UAVs.

This letter delves into the influence of drain wire design on electromagnetic radiated emission (RE) from a commercial universal serial bus (USB) cable operating in a high‐speed data transfer mode. The investigation involves an experimental comparison of measured RE across various retrofitted cables. Notably, it is demonstrated that the distribution of contact points on the drain‐shield has negligible effects on RE. Conversely, relocating the drain wire externally to the shields and minimizing the distance with respect to the grounding connector leads to a significant reduction in RE, particularly within the sub‐MHz frequency range. Consequently, regulatory proposals are put forth to diminish overall RE and enhance the RE compliance of USB cables.

The widespread use of composite materials with low electrical conductivity in modern advanced aircraft has placed higher requirements on lightning protection for airborne equipment. To ensure the safe operation of aircraft under a lightning environment, the internal cables and cable tracks of composite aircraft are modeled. The lightning protection performance of cables is calculated for different types and shielding parameters, and the effect of the cable layout inside a composite aircraft on the protection performance is analyzed. The role of the cable track in lightning protection is also verified. The calculation results show that the cable shield and track structure can provide good lightning protection for the cable in the electromagnetic exposure area, and the layout of the cable inside the aircraft has a greater impact on the protection performance. The analysis of cable shielding measures and their influencing factors can provide a reference for the performance improvement of cable screening measures for the lightning protection of composite aircraft.
