“…Se nutritional supplements have been widely used in fish production ( Barbosa et al., 2020 ; Farzad et al., 2019 ). In our previous research, we found that there is organic matter on the surface of SeNP ( Zhu et al., 2023 ), which explained that some proteins are attached to the surface of SeNP, and our further research shows that there are six kinds of selenoproteins on the surface. Our study is the first to explore the composition of Se speciation on the surface of biologically produced SeNP.…”

“…The biogenic SeNP used in this study was produced using Bacillus subtilis following our previous study ( Zhu et al., 2023 ). In brief, 8 mM Na 2 SeO 3 and B. subtilis were added to lysogeny broth liquid medium and incubated for 24 h at 37 °C in a rotary shaker.…”

“…SeNPs were obtained from probiotic Bacillus subtilis , which was cultured in Luria-Bertani (LB) liquid medium containing 8 mM Na 2 SeO 3 , following the protocol described in our previous study ( Zhu et al, 2023 ), and the microscopic morphology of the SeNPs was observed using scanning electron microscopy. To further confirm that the extracted nanoparticles were SeNPs, the XL30 ESEM (FEI, Hillsboro, OR, USA) equipped with an EDAX microanalytical system was used.…”

“…It has been stated that nano-Se added to the sperm extender in rams reduces lipid peroxidation and DNA damage after thawing, and positively increases sperm motility and membrane integrity (Hozyen et al 2019;Nateq et al 2020). In a study conducted in fish, it was stated that nano-Se added to the extender increased total and progressive motility, increased mitochondrial membrane integrity, plasma membrane integrity, and decreased ROS at 72 hours at +4 o C (Zhu et al 2023). In another study given orally to male rats nano-Se, after its reproductive toxicity was induced by bisphenol, there is a study stating that it is beneficial as an antioxidative to the damage caused by toxicity, rearranges COX-2 and ER-2 genes and reduces DNA damage (Khalaf et al 2019).…”
