Effect of Selective Condensation on the Characterization of Bio-oil from Pine Sawdust Fast Pyrolysis Using a Fluidized-Bed Reactor

Abstract: To maximize selective condensation of organics that are of known higher commercial value and to investigate the effects of selective condensation on bio-oil characterization, pine sawdust was pyrolyzed in a 1-5 kg/h bench-scale fluidized-bed reactor. In the experiments, the selective condensers and electrostatic precipitator were used to condense the pyrolysis vapors. In addition, the characterization of bio-oils, gases, and biochar was investigated. The results showed that the total bio-oil, gases, and char y… Show more

“…These results indicated that there were some mineral crystals such as MgO and CaCO 3 in the biochar [22]. The existence of alkali metals (Na, K, Ca and Mg) in the biochar was reported in our previous work [26,27].…”

“…In Fig. 3 it can be seen that the infrared spectra of biochar samples illustrates various bands in the spectra, corresponding to stretches N\ \H (3423 cm −1 ), aliphatic stretches C\ \H (2923 cm − 1 ), stretches conjugate C_C (1622 cm − 1 ), -CH 3 (1384 cm −1 ) and stretches C\ \O (1118 cm −1 ) [27]. The broad bands at 3423 cm −1 were attributed to the hydroxyl groups (O\ \H) due to the water content in the nine biochars.…”
