Effect of seed priming on grain growth rate and effective filling period in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars

Abstract: A field experiment was conducted during winter, 2015-16 with the objective to investigate the effect of bread wheat cultivars (Abu-Ghraib3, Ibaa99, and Alfeteh) and seed priming 100, 100, 150 mg L-1 of benzyl adenine, salicylic acid, gibberellic acid (GA3), respectively, ethanolic extract of Salix Sp., water extract of Glycyrrhiza glabra and distilled water (control) on grain growth rate (GGR), effective filling period (EFP) and accelerating of physiological maturity. Randomized complete block design with thre… Show more

“…The results of table 3 indicate a significant differents of the varieties and fertilizers addition and interaction between them . G5 cultivar gave the highest plant height 60.88 cm whereas Adnan 99 gave the lowest plant height 58.62 cm with an increasing percentage 3.86 % .The reason for that may be attributed to the genetic variation between the two cultivars in the length of internodes, in particular especially the higher inter node which represents about half the height of the wheat plant (Al-Baldawi, 2006).These results agreed with the last findings by (Bakht, Shafi, Zubair, Khan, & Shah, 2010). The results also showed significant differences for fertilizers addition treatments whereas T6treatment gave the highest plant height rate 67.29 cm not siginificantly differents from T5whileT1gave the lowest rate 52.08 cm and not significantly differents from T4 .…”

“…Nitrogen fertilization leads to longer vegetative growth of plants, which continues beyond flowering so that it is considered the main factor in increasing crop production. Therefore, varieties that respond to added fertilizer must be selected to achieve the goal from addition (Al-Baldawi 2006 andKiliç, &Gürsoy, S.2010). Nitrogen has the main role in cell division and elongation because of the increasing of maristimia activity while potassium improves the growth and development of wheat crop (Al-Alousi, 2009).…”

“…ha -1 [18], in three batches, the first at planting, the second at the tillering stage, and the third at the booting stage .The planting lines were with a distance of 20 cm between one line and another, and the seeds were planted at an average of 100 kg. ha -1 [19] , and the first irrigation was given on 11/15/2021, the first date. The field was followed up until emergence on 11/22/2021, as the experimental units were patched ,The Zadoks decimal scale was used to describe the main and secondary growth stages of wheat [15], to determine the stage of spraying with the physiological stimulant Appetizer), which is an emulsified foliar fertilizer composed of filters of seaweed Streptococcus (Ascophyllum nodosum (containing (GA 142) and micro-elements and gibberellins.…”
