Effect of Sectional Polymerization Process on Tunable Twist Structure Liquid Crystal Filters

Abstract: The effect of sectional polymerization process on tunable filters with cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) and blue phase liquid crystal (BPLC) is demonstrated. The bandwidths of the polymer-stabilized cholesteric liquid crystal (PSCLC) and polymer-stabilized blue phase liquid crystal (PSBPLC) filters can be broadened by the holding treatment without distortion. The reflection bandwidth of the CLC filter can be broadened from 120 nm to 220 nm, and that of the BPLC filter can be broadened from 45 nm to 140 nm. Mea… Show more

“…Cellulose nanocrystals (CNC), some of the most versatile and abundant biomaterials, are derived from natural cellulose [13,14]. The CNC suspension can selfassemble to form left-handed chiral liquid crystals when it reaches a certain critical concentration [15,16]. This helix structure can be maintained in the dried film through the slow evaporation of water [17].…”

“…Considering the effect of temperature on the LC filter, the performance of the sectional polymerization process on the tunable TSLC filters was demonstrated [72]. As the temperature decreased rapidly, the pitch of TSLCs at the bottom close to the temperature controller was shortened owing to the helical-twisting power variation, while that at the top remained due to the long distance from the temperature controller (Figure 3c).…”
