Effect of sea buckthorn meal extract in alleviating the toxic effect of ochratoxin A and zearalenone in porcine peripheral blood mononuclear cells

Abstract: The mycotoxins ochratoxin A (OTA) and zearalenone (ZEA) are frequent contaminants of cereals responsible for important toxic effects in human and animals. The aim of this study was to investigate the in vitro effect of the sea buckthorn meal extract in alleviating the toxic effect of ochratoxin A and zearalenone on oxidative stress and inflammation using porcine peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Our results have shown that both zearalenone and ochratoxin causes oxidative damage and alter the inflammatory res… Show more

“…The extraction of polyphenols and the assessment of total polyphenol concentration was already described (Pistol et al, 2020) Cell culture. PBMC were isolated from blood (Marin and Pistol, 2021) and cultivated in complete culture medium. PBMC were treated for 48h with LPS (10g/mL) and grape seed or sea buckthorn meal extracts (5mg/mL gallic acid Eq).…”

“…To mitigate the negative impact of mycotoxins on pig nutrition, various strategies have been proposed, including the use of antioxidants [40,41]. One promising approach is inclusion in feed of by-products like, for example, sea buckthorn and grapeseed, which are rich in antioxidants [42][43][44][45][46].…”
