Effect of Rice Straw on Tensile Properties of Tailings Cemented Paste Backfill

Abstract: It is important and difficult to improve the tensile strength of backfill material to ensure the stability of goafs. In this study, rice straw (RS) in fiber form is used to improve the tensile properties of cemented paste backfill (CPB). An orthogonal experiment was designed, Brazilian indirect tensile strength tests were conducted to test the tensile performance of RS fiber-reinforced cemented paste backfill (RSCPB) under different fiber content (1, 2, 3 kg/m3) and fiber length (0.8~1, 1~3, 3~5 cm), and the m… Show more

“…They found that the addition of corn stalk fiber increased the mechanical properties of CPB and that the reinforcement effect of corn stalk fiber after alkaline treatment was better. Li et al [27] studied the influence of straw fiber on the tensile properties of CPB. It was found that the addition of straw fiber increased the tensile properties of the CPB, and it was also found that this strengthening effect was weakened when the curing time was increased.…”

“…In terms of the tensile strength test of CPB, the splitting test is the most commonly used method (Yilmaz et al, 2009;Deng et al, 2017;Zhang and Zhang, 2020;Libos and Cui, 2021;Li et al, 2022). But many research studies assume that the crack failure begins when the tensile stress reaches a maximum point, and the splitting test is more suitable for brittle materials because they will not turn into plastic deformation before the tensile fracture occurs (Yu et al, 1997;Coviello et al, 2005;Lu et al, 2007;Li and Wong, 2013).…”

“…Making cemented paste backfill (CPB) from tailings as filling aggregate for underground mining areas is the most commonly used means to treat tailings [ 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 ]. CPB refers to a kind of cement-based material that is set and solidified by mixing dehydrated tailings, cementitious materials, water, etc., in a certain proportion [ 14 , 15 , 16 ]. Filling underground mining areas with CPB by specific methods can not only efficiently treat tailings, it also helps to reduce surface subsidence, improve the underground environment of mining operations, and enhance ore recovery [ 17 , 18 , 19 ].…”
