Effect of residence time spectrum in the oligomerisation of isobutene from mixed butenes

Abstract: The influence of the residence time spectrum on the conversion, selectivity and product composition in the oligomerisation of isobutene from mixed butenes in a continuous stirred-tank reactor was studied at a temperature of 65 "C and impeller Reynolds number in the range of 36x lo4 to 67 x lo4. The average residence time and its spectrum affected the conversion of olefins in the feed gas, the selectivity and the octene yields. It was established that for best yields of 2,4,4-trimethyl pent-I-ene obtained from … Show more

“…At present, the catalysts used in isobutene oligomerization include mainly solid phosphoric acid catalyst, molecular sieve catalyst, supported catalyst, acidic cation exchange resin catalyst and ionic liquid (IL) catalyst. The INAlk process of UOP company, the isobutylene dimerization‐trickle bed hydrogenation process jointly developed by KBR company and Nestoy company, and the isobutylene dimerization‐hydrogenation process of Lyondell & Kveaemer company 9‐11 are processes that mainly use solid acid catalyst, take mixed C 4 olefins or isobutylene as raw materials, and react to produce dimerized product isooctene, and then hydrogenate isooctene to produce isooctane. An H 3 PO 4 /activated carbon catalyst was prepared by Malaika et al ., 12 and aisobutylene/isobutane mixture with the molar ratio of 4:1 was used as raw material.…”
