“…Ishizaka & Ishizaka (1968) reduced IgE antibody with 2-mercaptoethanol for 1 h followed by alkylation and found a substantial loss in PK activity as well as a marked decrease in the ability of these reduced-alkylated molecules to block passive sensitization of himians with reaginic antibody of a different specificity. At about the same time, Stanworth et al (1970) studied the ability of myeloma IgE to inhibit the PCA reaction in baboons following reduction to different extents. No significant inhibiton was observed when less than five of the eight disulfides susceptible to reduction under mild conditions were cleaved.…”
